«Vamos a probar en Erfoud con el nuevo motor», contó el piloto Franco Caimi a Campeones, antes de viajar a Marruecos junto a su mecánico y sumarse a la escuadra oficial Yamaha de Rally Cross Country.

En un oasis del Sahara, Erfoud, Yamaha busca encontrar la calma que vuelva a poner a sus motos en condición de luchar mano a mano por las posiciones del podio en el Rally Dakar. La edición del año 2020 en Arabia Saudita está cerca, con el Rally de Marruecos a disputarse del 5 al 9 de octubre y las pruebas que previamente se realizarán en la desértica región ubicada al Sur de la cordillera del Atlas.

«Vamos a hacer unos trabajos en la moto antes de la carrera, con el nuevo motor«, afirmó, con el boarding pass en mano, el argentino Franco Caimi a Campeones. El mendocino viaja con Facundo Lastra, un mecánico bonaerense que se ganó el lugar dentro de un equipo oficial y es el encargado de alistar la WR450F RALLY.

Se esperaba con ansias la nueva caja de velocidades de seis marchas. Según describe el piloto, el producto de la marca de los tres diapasones «está funcionando muy bien«.

Luego del auspicioso debut en el Dakar 2017 con un 8º lugar en el clasificador general de Motos con Honda, Caimi no pudo sostener el palmarés debido a lesiones y hasta algunos inconvenientes mecánicos. La renovada ruta del raid más duro del mundo, en el inexplorado territorio árabe también aporta nuevas esperanzas al equipo que representa a la marca japonesa.

«Tenemos claro que esta es la última carrera antes de ‘La Carrera’, el Dakar, así que nos tomamos la responsabilidad como tal«, sostuvo Caimi, que tras dos abandonos quiere ver la bandera de cuadros por segunda vez en el Dakar 2020. Así, un intenso Test en Erfoud precederá a la competición que tendrá base en Fez, la tercera ciudad en tamaño del país del norte africano.
